Why Isn’t My Purple Strain Turning Fully Purple? 🌈🌿Updated 6 hours ago
It can be frustrating to grow a strain advertised as “purple” and end up with buds that only show a hint of color. If your plant is still mostly green, don’t worry, this is usually natural and not a sign of poor health.
🌡️ Temperature Plays a Role
Cooler night temperatures can encourage purple coloration by triggering anthocyanin pigments. While nights in the mid-50s can help, color change often requires a greater day/night swing or more consistently cool nights.
🧬 Genetics Come First
Not every plant of a “purple” strain will show dramatic coloration. Some phenotypes stay mostly green with only slight purple tints, even when conditions are perfect.
🌱 Plant Health Matters
Nutrients: Excess nitrogen during late flower can mask colors and keep buds green.
Maturity: Some strains don’t fully show color until very late in flowering, often the final 1–2 weeks.
Stress factors: Too much stress (heat, drought, pests) can interfere with normal pigmentation.
🍇 What To Expect
A little light purple is completely normal.
The lack of deep purple does not affect potency, resin, or aroma — it’s mostly cosmetic.
Harvest timing should be based on trichome development (cloudy/amber) rather than waiting for full purple color.
