Materials Needed

  • Paper towels
  • Tweezers
  • Bottled or purified water

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Prepare Paper Towels

  • Moisten two paper towels
  • Wring out excess water

Step 2: Set Up First Layer

  • Place one moist paper towel on a plate
  • Set the other aside for later

Step 3: Place Seeds

  • Using tweezers, place seeds on the paper towel
  • Leave about 1 inch (2.5 cm) between each seed

Step 4: Cover Seeds

  • Lay the second moist paper towel over the seeds
  • Be careful not to disturb seed placement
  • Add more water if necessary

Step 5: Check Moisture

  • Lift a corner of the paper towel to check for excess water
  • Drain any freestanding liquid
  • Ensure towels remain consistently moist

Step 6: Create Dark Environment

  • Use the second plate as a lid to cover the seeds
  • Place in a warm, dry spot (e.g., cabinet, drawer, or refrigerator top)

Step 7: Maintain Temperature

  • Keep constant temperature between 70–77°F (21–25°C)

Step 8: Monitor Progress

  • Check seeds regularly
  • Expect taproots to emerge within 24 to 120 hours

Step 9: Prepare for Planting

  • Once taproots appear, seeds are ready for planting
