How to Make RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) at Home 🧪🌿Updated 4 hours ago

RSO is a full-extract cannabis oil made by washing plant material with alcohol and gently evaporating it down to a thick, potent concentrate. Here’s the quick, safe way to make it at home.

What You Need

  • Dried cannabis buds or sugar leaf

  • Food-grade ethyl alcohol or 190-proof grain alcohol

  • Glass or stainless-steel container

  • Coffee filters or fine mesh

  • Rice cooker, hot plate, or double boiler

  • Syringes or silicone containers

  • Good ventilation and heat-safe gloves

Safety First ⚠️

Use no open flames. Alcohol vapors are flammable.
Work in a well-ventilated area away from sparks, stoves, or cigarettes.
Use food-safe solvents only.

How to Make RSO

1. Break up your cannabis

Lightly crumble the buds or trim into small pieces. Don’t grind finely.

2. Freeze the cannabis and solvent

Place both in the freezer for a few hours to reduce chlorophyll extraction.

3. Wash the cannabis

Cover the frozen cannabis with cold alcohol and stir gently for 2–3 minutes.

4. Strain

Pour the mixture through a coffee filter or mesh into another container.

5. Evaporate the alcohol

Heat the filtered liquid in a rice cooker, hot plate, or double boiler.
Keep temperatures under 250°F (120°C) until it thickens and bubbling slows.

6. (Optional) Decarb

For fully activated oil, heat your finished RSO at 220–240°F (105–115°C) for 20–40 minutes.

7. Collect and store

Draw the warm oil into syringes or store in silicone containers.
Keep it cool and dark. Refrigeration extends shelf life.

Quick Tips 🤓

  • One ounce of cannabis generally produces 3–6 grams of RSO.

  • Everclear (190 proof) works well as long as it’s high proof.

  • Slow evaporation protects potency and keeps the process safer.
